They called her the Queen of Stars, but she did not rule over the heavens. They worshiped her, but their faith was a small thing to a heart that had traveled the Cosmos.

Most of my paintings start out with a sentence, written in my phone's Notes app. Sometimes these can get really detailed, though this ends up strangely tragic because what I paint seldom resembles what I wrote down all that closely. I sometimes imagine doing new paintings of what I actually wrote down and first imagined, because often times the ideas I discard while painting are pretty interesting.

But other times I am less descriptive. The scrap I wrote, which would become the working title of this piece, was:

> & let the stars be her robe, & the badge of her office

As usual there is likely dreaded symbolism at work here, but it was not in the conscious part of my brain while I painted any of it.

The Hylozoist is a long-form digital project I began in February 2020. Each painting tells a story, and each painting tells another story when viewed in context. Also, each painting can be followed to the next painting in the series if you follow the most interesting thing in the scene.
